The Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) system in Baixada Santista transports an average of 27,500 passengers per day. It spans 11 km between the Barreiros Terminal in São Vicente and the Porto Station in Santos. To keep users well-informed, the waiting points are equipped with SIMM.PRO – a sound management and messaging solution that operates in conjunction with Axis Communications' IP Audio speakers developed by SilliS – Security Intelligence with cutting-edge technology to send alerts and guidance to daily commuters, including tourists, through messages on LED panels and speakers.
With the solution based on the IP audio technology from Swedish manufacturer Axis Communications, it was possible to enhance safety and optimize operational processes with scheduled or real-time announcements. Thus, the VLT – recognized for providing a quick journey while preserving the streets and historical heritage of the port city – achieved an appropriate sound environment that meets daily demands and those expected with the line's expansion.
“An important differentiator is that by having all system components with IP communication (both speakers and LED panels), SIMM.PRO enables real-time monitoring, facilitating immediate identification in case of failures, something that would be unlikely in implementations using analog sound systems,” explains Marcel Minotelli, technical director of SilliS.
Understanding the IP Audio Solution
With thousands of passengers relying on the service every day, the VLT's sound solution needed to be committed to the essential nature of public service, adding practicality, functionality, fewer failures, and a positive impact on user experience. Therefore, SilliS chose to use the SIMM.PRO software integrated with AXIS Audio Manager Edge, working together with AXIS C1410 mini speakers.
“The Axis IP Sound solution combined with SIMM.PRO's Playback and Media Management creates a unique ecosystem for centralized management of audio communication and messages on LED panels individually for each VLT station.”, concludes Marcel Minotelli.
The AXIS C1410 speaker is designed to be a compact device with a wide sound range. The all-in-one unit eliminates the need for a power amplifier and signal processor (DSP). The pre-configured digital signal processing produces clear voice in all situations, and the internal memory accommodates pre-recorded messages, or the responsible team can also respond to notifications with real-time voice announcements.
Additionally, the built-in microphone allows for bidirectional communication, enabling immediate responses from people present on the other side.
Another advantage is that through the SIMM.PRO app integrated with AXIS Audio Manager Edge, it is possible to manage unlimited zones with up to 200 speakers in each zone and control announcements to be made throughout the day, week, month, or year all at once in an agile and proactive manner. This ensures that the entire length of the VLT in Baixada Santista receives audio and text alerts to facilitate the travel of residents and tourists along the São Paulo coast.
